Diving Ensenada Bay

Ensenada offers exceptional scuba and snorkeling around the Punta Banda Peninsula and the Todos Santos Islands. The Bufadora at the tip of the Punta Banda Peninsula benefits from a deep submarine canyon that extends from the Continental Shelf into the bay of Ensenada.

Fed by the Pacific Oceans' California Current, the Ensenada Bay waters host an abundance and diversity of marine life. Over 300 species of fish life, sponge, and other invertebrate life are found here.

Our reefs are home to huge schools of sheepshead, whitefish, scorpion fish, kelp bass, flounder, cabezon, white sea bass, and moray eel to name but a few. In addition the many miles of natural and artificial reef systems attract giant sea bass, yellowtail, bonito, barracuda, lemon shark, blue sharks, and occasionally a hammer head. They also provide alternative habitats for juveniles of all species.

The Ensenada Bay area offers a multitude of diving opportunities. Colorful reefs, shipwrecks, massive schools of fish, lobstering or underwater photography - it's all here, and just minutes from the dock. Whatever your scuba diving interest or experience level, you’ll find your niche here.

Do It Your Way

Experienced scuba divers enjoy the freedom of drift diving in buddy pairs or small groups, carrying their own dive flag. Divers have the option of diving with experienced local divers, or taking a flag and having their own dive experience.

Check our lodging page for local operations offering discounts for divers. If we can help in any way with your trip planning, be sure to call.

"Hi, my name is Travis Jones. More commonly known in the diving circles as "El Gringo Pelon" (The Bald White Guy). I'm a native Californian and a founding member of the Monterey Bay Tritons spear-fishing club. My passion for the past ten years has been underwater hunting (spear-fishing), by means of both scuba and free-diving. I regularly hunt up and down the California coastline as well as several other places around the world.

During the past three years I have explored the North Pacific side of the Baja California peninsula and nearby islands. I found this area unparalleled in undersea beauty and overflowing with game fish due to the fact that it is rarely frequented by divers. Currently there are no dedicated dive boats in the area, making it complex and difficult to plan a dive trip to the unspoiled coastal islands off of Baja California, a trip usually accomplished  only by the more adventuresome divers.

With this thought in mind I searched for a way to make the journey more civilized, predictable and pleasant for myself, my friends and colleagues and anyone who enjoys diving. In early 2007, supported by Nick Moles, (a fellow diving enthusiast from the Palm Springs area), we found a local Ensenada firm with the means, the facilities and the desire to partner with us in a venture which will make diving the Pacific side of the Baja California peninsula as simple as making a hotel reservation.

Beginning in the summer of 2009 we will be unveiling Baja Fiesta Diving Charters, operating out of Marina Baja Fiesta in Ensenada, Baja California. We will be presenting the first and only dive boat out of Ensenada the 33’ ‘CONFETTI’, dedicated exclusively to the diving enthusiast. Though the diving charters concept will be a new addition to Marina Baja Fiesta, they are a local icon, and have been successfully serving the Ensenada waterfront community since 1980.

I take pride in inviting you to come aboard the 33’ ‘CONFETTI’ and experience some of Mexico's finest diving. Explore the emerald green kelp forests, swim with the seals through breath taking lava formations, take pictures of the bountiful undersea wildlife or even hunt these crystalline waters."

Just one dive and you'll fall in love with Baja all over again.
